APCAP Joint Forum: Clean Air for All - Strengthening Women and Children’s Engagement

This year, the Third Asia Pacific Clean Air Partnership Joint Forum will take place from 8-10 September 2021. It will bring together government leaders, experts, the private sector, and civil society organizations to discuss how we can ‘build back better for healthy air and a healthy planet’. The APCAP Joint Forum aims to showcase the region’s efforts to beat air pollution and discuss opportunities to accelerate clean air solutions, contribute to carbon neutrality, and support socio-economic recovery.

As air pollution is one of the key environmental crises in Asia and the Pacific, it affects everyone, especially the most vulnerable people including women, children, and ethnic minorities and persons with disabilities. For women in low- and middle-income countries, household air pollution is the single leading environmental health risk and a main cause of non-communicable diseases (WHO, 2016). Young children are especially vulnerable because air pollution affects their development, learning, and overall well-being.

Thus, the objectives of the session which is co-organized by the EmPower program, are to raise awareness of the impacts of air pollution on children, women and vulnerable groups, and promote clean air solutions that are human rights-based and successfully employ gender perspective and child-centered approach. To register to this session, visit https://cleanairweek.org/
