Water assessment can only be meaningful with a gender perspective. Identifying the factors that contribute to the inclusion or exclusion of women and men belonging to different social and cultural groups, and the ways in which they interact with water resources for different uses, could improve the provision, management and conservation of the world’s water resources for the benefit of all. The collection of sex-disaggregated water data is the first step towards a transformative process in achieving the goals of improving gender equality in the management of water resources and water governance. UNESCO WWAP has created an innovative toolkit for the collection and analysis of sex-disaggregated water data to address the data gap on gender and water issues at the global level.
